Are any others on this site in apartments versus residence halls? I am interested in seeing how some of your processes and programming works-- you can reach me at burstsm@slu.edu, or just write back on here and I'll check it out! Good luck with opening for those of you who haven't done it quite yet!

Is this site really up and running? If so..great idea and I'm going to include it in a list of resources for a res life conference we're having in a few weeks.

Alison,

Well, the site is live, but as far as up and running, that clearly is not the case. I have advertised the site in a professional regional housing newsletter, through a popular website, and through some other contacts, but I've gotten little response. I think this is a good idea, but it's really worthless without people like you engaging in the community.

Do you have any ideas or suggestions how to make this blog more useful, practical, or appealing? Maybe it's worth bagging in favor of a Facebook community?

If you see this and would like to respond, let me know: samjenningsii@gmail.com

Hello,

I have a M.A. in Intercultural Communications, a B.A. in Social Work and have worked in Student Affairs and Off-Campus Student Services, but never in Residence Life. I was working as an event manager when the company laid off 60% of the staff due to budget, and I was one of them.

After that, I decided that I was happiest and very good at working with students, so I decided to focus my search on Residence Life positions. Because of my lack of experience, I got lots of "no's," but recently I was offered Res. Counselor summer position.

The conflict is that last Friday I was notified that I had passed the phone interview stage at another university and was offered a chance to meet the committee in person. The problem is that the interview and start date will conflict with the summer position.

Should I drop the opportunity to gain "live-in" experience that would leave me at square one after the summer, or should I take my chances to compete with four other candidates (most likely with Res. Life experience) for one of the two open, full-time positions?

I have great experience as a Peace Corps volunteer and working in residential transitional facilities with teens, but I don't want to waste any opportunity to gain experience in this new career.

Any suggestions?

I have never heard of this site but am quite impressed with this concept. This is a great networking tool.

My thoughts are: if you advertise on facebook and at grad school (as many are in res life) you are sure to get more attention drawn to this site.

Ziggy its a tough decision...one that we would not be able to call. You really have to go with your instincts and what your heart says. You are taking a risk either way...its just about what don't you mind risking? If you have more of a passion for res life I say why not...but if you believe this is a great opportunity for the summer position then thumbs up on that one too.

Great idea!

Please become a fan of "Live-In Pro" and tell all your friends.

I'll try to get folks on board and get some of the resources up you were asking about.

Please, keep active!
